Hands-On Koto Experience at Olin Library

Try playing this unique Japanese instrument at a hands-on performance, explore the history of the koto at Wesleyan University, and learn more about the library’s collections of Japanese scores with a visiting shihan (master) from Japan!

Satoko Takemoto is a shihan (master) of the Japanese 13-string koto. Her teacher was a former visiting artist at Wesleyan. Ph.D. Graduate student Garrett Groesbeck will highlight Japanese scores in the Music Library collection, some of which were donated by Satoko’s teacher.
