Solomon Kim
Graduate student in Music Solomon Kim presents Sept papillons (Seven butterflies) by Kaija Saariaho. This series of miniatures explores ephemerality, instability, and fragility. This program is a preview of Kim’s Graduate Contextual Concert, exploring their practice as a cellist and improviser in both solo and ensemble settings.
Stan Scott
Dr. Stan Scott PhD ’97 will perform songs of the boatmen, Bauls, and Fakirs of Bengal and Bangladesh in a 15 minute mini-concert as part of Wesleyan’s 50th anniversary Navaratri Festival.
Winner of the Mumbai Forum Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award of New York’s Cultural Association of Bengal, Scott has been a featured vocalist at Kolkatta’s Rabindra Sadan, Mumbai’s NCPA and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Lucknow’s Bhatkhande Music Institute and Ramakrishna Mission. He teaches North Indian vocal music at Wesleyan and in his own Rangila School of Music (since 1998), and has taught North Indian music at Yale, Colgate, UConn, Clark, Central Connecticut State, and Southern Connecticut State Universities.
