Smith Reading Room, first floor Olin Library, 252 Church St., Middletown, CT
Free and open to the public.

Try playing this unique Japanese instrument at a hands-on performance, explore the history of the koto at Wesleyan University, and learn more about the library’s collections of Japanese scores with a visiting shihan (master) from Japan!
Satoko Takemoto is a shihan (master) of the Japanese 13-string koto. Her teacher, Kazue Sawai, donated a koto to Wesleyan’s World Instrument Collection, which will be used in the demonstration, as well as printed scores to the Music Library. Ph.D. Graduate student Garrett Groesbeck will highlight a selection of these scores.
