Gribbel Room 202A, 2nd floor Olin Library

Renowned Burundian musician Steven Sogo will perform at Wesleyan on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 from 3-4 pm. His visit has been arranged by Chance Kinyange, MA’25, founder of the PVD World Music Institute (Providence, RI) and curator of the current exhibition in Olin Library, Finding the Spirit of Inanga: Musical Instruments from Africa. Come hear some of the featured instruments during this mini concert in Gribbel Room 202A (second floor Olin Library) and view the exhibit in the basement exhibit cases.

Finding the Spirit of Inanga takes visitors on a spectacular journey through empires, technologies, and traditions, featuring the inanga, a unique and significant musical instrument played by people from across the Great Lakes region of Africa, as well as other instruments from around the continent. This exhibition and related events are part of PVD World Music Institute’s ongoing mission to celebrate, promote and enrich the musical traditions and arts of African refugees and immigrants for present and future generations.

Check out the exhibition’s online multimedia component, which showcases 3D models and audio and video examples.
